1. Medroxyprogesterone may cause increased appetite, which may cause patients to put on weight. Vaginal bleeding may occur in women, also when treatment stops a bleed similar to menstruation may occur. Muscle cramps and gynaecomastia may occur. There may be changes in mood and lethargy.
2. Megestrol may cause increased appetite, which may cause patients to put on weight, also fluid retention.
3. GPs should ensure that they have full information on any of these drugs if they are to prescribe them within primary care.
